This year I finished creating my new photography website, and I cannot think of a better way to end 2012 than by highlighting my ten favorite images from this year. Looking back on 2012, it's no surprise that five of my top images were taken in New England where I live. Shooting close to home makes it easier to be in the best places at the best times. Creating strong landscape images often requires having great weather in addition to having an interesting subject. Three images were New England landscapes taken at familiar locations with good weather conditions. "Birch Lightening" was taken on a rainy day at the peak of foliage season. The "Fog along Sudbury River" lasted only about 10 minutes before dissipating. I wouldn't have gotten this shot without having been there before and knowing the best time to return.
But traveling to great locations can also be rewarding. In 2012 I made my first trip to Iceland. The image "Iceberg Sunrise at Jokulsarlon" required a lot of dedication. It was shot at about 3:00am, and that was after shooting "Jokulsarlon Sunset" at the same location at midnight. But my favorite image for 2012 was "Sunset at the Chimney - Owl Creek Pass Colorado" which depicts the most spectacular sunset I have ever experienced, the light and clouds that evening were just magical.
And now, my Top Ten Favorite Images for 2012, I hope you enjoy them :
